Oh my...

You have found me. Somehow, someway you have managed to find this webpage. If you are not looking for information about Remco Schellekens, also known as 'Merty' on the internet, you might want to skip this page and search further, because this page is all about this person.

For those who googled me

I'm not : So, this rules out a lot of embarrassing google results and prevents any awkward assumptions you might have about me when doing a "background check" the easy way. Although it would be cooler if I was indeed a soccer-playing, super-strong, carnival lover physiotherapist who is still young and knows a lot about cars to, instead of , well, just me.

Just a summary

Well, as stated before, I'm Remco Schellekens, also using the handle 'merty' out of convenience everywhere on the internet. I was born in 1971 in the Netherlands and still live there somewhere in the middle with my girlfriend and cat. Im an "Integration Architect" which job description would be something like "thinking about, explaining and guiding IT people how to integrate IT components, applications, systems, processes, people or even complete departments". In the past, I was hired by several dutch companies as IT Architect, Consultant, Trainer, Project manager, Coach or Interim Manager. Nowadays, I'm employed by Essent to work as architect and as interim manager of the integration department. I have a degree in electronics but started my career before the internet bubble came to life by developing software, websites en and teaching about the magical world of internet technology. So, I do have knowlegde of both hard- and software. If you want to know more about my working past and present, check my LinkedIn page.

And more

Although I'm not doing much software development as part of my job anymore, I still like to develop programs for my own use and to learn new environments, like the iPod or android platform. I'm a big fan of many Unix -like- systems, including Linux and Mac OS-X.
A few of those creations I made do -still- live on the net, like: Besides of this, I like to play keys in the band named 'no kiddin', drawing or reading cartoons, tinkering/hacking electronics, and playing board games or games online like GuildWars or Call of Duty Modern Warfare II/Black Ops

For some strange reason, people start ending up on one of my first webpages, a very, very old Netscape bookmark file of me, I guess some bookmarks are more then 12 year old and almost none of the links will work.

Other online activities

I like to "plurk" (mertyPlurk) one or two small messages a day, listing funny things I found on the internet
Those Plurks are also published on my - very empty- Facebook page and on twitter (mertyTwit).
I might have some "social network" pages on other places to, like Orkut,Plaxo, Hyves. But not really in the mood to keep those up-to-date.

Yup, that's me. If you want to contact me, use 'merty' email address at 'xs4all.nl'. I do get a lot of email, so can't promise I will answer all email or might even discard it as possible spam if you don't specify in the subject why exactly you are contacting me.
